Theatrical licensor Music Theatre International has announced a weekend-long event celebrating the return of live theatre that will include worldwide performances of a new musical revue consisting of fifteen songs to be selected from a list of over 40 from its most successful shows including Ragtime, Disney's Beauty and The Beast, Hairspray and Into The Woods. The event, titled All Together Now! A Global Event Celebrating Local Theatre, is scheduled for November 12-15, 2021, and has been licensed by over 400 theaters in 34 countries for a current total of 2,800 performances and counting.
Landmark Musical Theatre is taking part in this worldwide celebration of our emergence from the Covid-19 lockdown with twelve planned performances over the four-day weekend, combining it with the grand opening of its new 99-seat venue, Theatre 33, located at 533 Sutter Street in San Francisco less than a block from the Powell Cable Car line and just five blocks from the Powell Muni/Bart station on Market Street. Theatre 33 was previously used by CustomMade Theater, and has also been the home of the Actors' Theater of San Francisco, Tides Theatre and San Francisco Playhouse.
Landmark Artistic Director Jon Rosen noted that "with just 99 seats, which is a good size for the kind of intimate musicals Landmark Musicals is known for presenting, we felt the need to do an extended short run so that more people would have the opportunity to purchase our relatively low cost tickets ($5-$20) to see this remarkable show."
MTI hopes the event will serve to both celebrate the return of live theatre and function as a fundraiser for theatres worldwide still impacted by the effects of the shuttering of most live performance for well over a year. MTI has received permission from its producers, authors, composers and lyricists to waive all rentals and royalties for the performances of ALL TOGETHER NOW! over the scheduled weekend. "Landmark is very grateful for this showing of concern and interest for local theaters. MTI is typically the recipient of thousands of dollars in licensing fees paid to it by local theaters in order to produce their catalog of musicals. This is d terrific service for all of us who have managed to hold on through the eighteen long months of the pandemic with little or no revenue," said Rosen, "and we are extremely grateful to them for that support."
“MTI’s All Together Now! is our way to say ‘thank you’ and give back to all of the hard-working teachers, producers and directors who give so much of themselves to this art form every day,” says MTI Chief Operating Officer and Director of Education & Development John Prignano.
All Together Now! will feature songs and scenes from MTI's library, which includes such titles as Into the Woods, Songs for a New World, Les Misérables, and Guys and Dolls. The specific contents of the revue will be revealed at a later date.
Some of the announced authors and rightsholders donating their work are Stephen Sondheim, Alan Menken, Howard Ashman, Glenn Slater, Jack Feldman, Benny Andersson & Björn Ulvaeus, Green Day, Disney Theatrical Productions, Jeanine Tesori, Dick Scanlan, Bobby Lopez & Kristen Anderson-Lopez, Benj Pasek & Justin Paul, Jason Robert Brown, David Hein & Irene Sankoff, Sara Bareilles, Lionel Bart, Jason Howland, Mindi Dickstein, Jerry Bock & Sheldon Harnick.
