THE BAY AREA PREMIERE OF KANDER AND EBB'S MUSICAL STEEL PIER
In the honky tonk world of marathon dancing in 1933, a captivating assortment of depression-era souls eager to dance their way to fame and prizes gather on the famous Steel Pier in Atlantic City. The spectacle is presided over by an oily-tongued emcee who is secretly married to Rita Racine, a champion dancer. Her usual partner doesn't show up, so she is paired with a handsome young pilot on leave. As the hours of dancing whirl on, Rita becomes increasingly disillusioned with her sleazy husband and more and more infatuated with her dashing partner and a vision of new life away from the dreary world of the marathon.
Landmark Musical Theatre is very proud to present the Bay Area premiere of this relatively unknown musical by the creators of CHICAGO and CABARET, whose songs perfectly capture the rhythms of the 1930's dance era. STEEL PIER was nominated for eleven Tony Awards and was the recipient of the Theatre World Award for Kristin Chenoweth's notable Broadway debut.

REHEARSAL INFORMATION
Rehearsals will start on Monday, December 13, 2021, for one week only before a two-week holiday hiatus from Friday, December 17, 2021, through Sunday, January 2, 2022. Rehearsals will resume on Monday, January 3, 2022, through the opening. Rehearsals until tech week will generally be scheduled on:
- Monday-Thursday, 7:30 PM - 11:00 PM
- Saturday, 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM
- Sunday, 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM
Weeknight rehearsals are scheduled for up to three-and-a-half hours although we will always try to keep rehearsals to three hours or less. The additional scheduled time is to allow for late starts, unexpected conflicts and other issues that arise from time to time.
Weekend rehearsals are scheduled for up to four hours.
Prior to the start of tech week, we do NOT schedule rehearsals on weekdays (prior to 6:00 PM), Friday nights (after 6:00 PM), Saturday nights (after 6:00 PM) or Sundays (before 2:00 PM). We may occasionally schedule Saturday afternoon and Sunday evening rehearsals although that is a rare occurrence.
A detailed schedule will be available as soon as casting decisions are announced and conflicts are reviewed.
Tech week starts on Saturday, February 5, 2022, and continues through the Thursday, February 10, 2022. Tech week rehearsals on weekends may be long (up to 8 hours) and on weekdays typically start at 6:30 PM and are sometimes extended as late as midnight based on the demands of the show.
COMPENSATION AND CONTRACTUAL INFORMATION
All actors will be required to sign the standard Landmark Musical Theatre Performer's Agreement, which includes rehearsal and performance expectations, rules of conduct and compensation.
Landmark expects actors to work as volunteers during rehearsal. There is no compensation offered for rehearsals. Starting with the first (or only) preview performance for a public audience, all actors are compensated based on San Francisco's minimum wage ($16.32/hour). Taxes are withheld and paid to the appropriate taxing agencies as required by law. Checks or direct deposits are made every two weeks in accordance with Landmark's standard pay periods.
Landmark also offers a bonus compensation plan based on a pool that is established once a break-even revenue point is reached. For STEEL PIER, that point is estimated to be approximately $60,000.00. Twenty percent (20%) of all revenue in excess of the break-even point is divided between the actors in the cast on a pro rata basis. The exact amount and division of the bonus plan (if any) will be specified in your Performer's Agreement.
There are no Actors' Equity contracts available for this production. Landmark is a signatory to Actors' Equity and is not permitted to knowingly offer work to any AEA member unless it is under an Actors' Equity agreement.
