TAKING YOUR MEASUREMENTS

Please take all the measurements shown at the bottom of this page. There are several pictures to help you with the location of each measurement. Record the measurements in inches (include partial inches if necessary to 1/2 inch) and send them to us in an email with the Subject being "MEASUREMENTS FOR your name".

Rule #1: Do not take measurements yourself! Have someone who is reasonably competent help you. It is simply not possible to make all of these measurements correctly on your own. Make sure you are comfortable with your helper touching you as this is pretty much required to take proper measurements.

Rule #2: Please use (if at all possible) a soft tape measure (used for sewing). If you do not have one, use a string approximately 60"-72" long and after finding the appropriate length for a measurement, use a regular ruler or construction tape measure to measure the distance on the string.

NOTE: PLEASE DO NOT USE A RULER OR CONSTRUCTION TAPE MEASURE TO DIRECTLY MAKE MEASUREMENTS AS THE INFLEXIBILITY OF THESE ITEMS WILL MAKE THE MEASUREMENTS INCORRECT.

If you do not have the proper equipment or you are not confident that you can make these measurements correctly, please ask us to do this for you at the next rehearsal.

We need ALL of the following measurements in order to properly fit costumes. (Typically inseam is not taken on women, but since we will have some women in pants, this is required too).

  • A - CHEST/BUST — taken around greatest fullness of the chest
  • B - WAIST — taken around natural waistline (where the hips start to flare or just above the hip bones - NOT necessarily where the belt is worn!)
  • C - HIP — taken around greatest fullness of the hips
  • D - OUTSEAM — taken from natural waistline to just below the ankle bone
  • E - INSEAM — taken from crotch to just below the ankle bone
  • F - NECK SIZE — neck size taken around the base of the neck (where the shoulders start to flare)
  • G - SLEEVE LENGTH — taken from prominent neck vertebrae (spine, back of the neck) across shoulder to wrist
  • H - HAT — taken at the widest point around head ABOVE the ears
  • I - SHOULDER TO SHOULDER — taken straight across back from shoulder bone to shoulder bone
  • J - NAPE TO WAIST — taken from base of neck to natural waist (see B)
  • K - NAPE TO FLOOR — taken from base of neck to floor
  • SHOE SIZE - This should be provided, if possible, in an American size for men, women or youth. If you aren't sure or if you only have European measurements, please also include the length of your foot from heel to the longest toe, and the width across the ball of the foot (at the widest point near your toes).
