2022-23 - The AAHA! Season

Sometimes, change is inevitable. Our plan for 2022-23 was to have the "A-List" season with four shows, all starting with the letter "A". The shows were Addams Family, Annie Warbucks, And The World Goes 'Round and finally Avenue Q.

However, late in 2022, the original producer of HAiR on Broadway, Michael Butler, passed away at the age of 96. Michael had been an enthusiastic supporter of our 2017 production of HAiR at the Great Star Theatre. We have decided to modify our 2022-23 season to become the "AAHA!" season, changing our third show, And The World Goes 'Round, to a revival of our wonderful award-winning 2017 production of HAiR. Our show will open on April 29th, the 55th anniversary of the opening on Broadway and will run into early June.

We completed our first show, THE ADDAMS FAMILY, in November.

In March and continuing into early April, we have a San Francisco regional theater debut: ANNIE WARBUCKS, the sequel to the Broadway hit ANNIE. Written by the same team responsible for that long-running Tony Award-winning hit, this show picks up right where ANNIE left off, as Annie is adopted by Daddy Warbucks. When Commissioner Doyle comes to try to take Annie away because Warbucks is single, hijinks ensue, with Annie meeting a new set of friends in Tennesse, Franklin Delano Roosevelt once again coming to the rescue, and in the end, Warbucks ending up married... but to who? You'll have to come see the show to find out!

Late April will bring a dramatic intimate production of the classic anti-war rock musical, HAiR. This is an encore of our big stage production in 2017, which won the Theatre Bay Area award for Best Choreography (Tier 3).

Finally, we will close our 2022-23 season with one of the funniest (and most adult) musicals ever to hit Broadway, the Tony Award-winning AVENUE Q, an R-rated spoof on the long-running Public Television Workshop kids show SESAME STREET. Combining puppets with live action characters (like the original television show), AVENUE Q explores what happens AFTER Sesame Street, when you graduate from college and have to finally learn to live in the real world. Explosively funny, with music and lyrics by Robert Lopez (later to write the music for the film and stage production FROZEM and THE BOOK OF MORMON), AVENUE Q pulled off a major upset in 2003, picking up the Best Musical Tony award from its principal competition WICKED. This one is NOT for the kiddies!

We are confident that you will enjoy this collection of musicals and we are offering a terrific bargain for this first full season in our new theater: A four-ticket season subscription for our best Premium seats (the front five tows in the center) for the unbelievably low cost of $99, less than $25 a ticket.
