GENERAL INFORMATION ON YOU'RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN
Happiness is great musical theatre! With charm, wit, and heart, YOU'RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN explores life through the eyes of Charlie Brown and his friends in the Peanuts gang. This revue of songs and scene vignettes, based on the beloved Charles Schulz comic strip, was a hit off-Broadway in the 1960s, running over 1500 performances, and was revived in 1999 on Broadway, winning two Tony awards for Roger Bart as Snoopy and Kristin Chenoweth as Sally.
The six principals are Charlie Brown, Sally Brown (his little sister), Lucy Van Pelt, Linus Van Pelt (her little brother), Schroeder and Snoopy (Charlie Brown's pet beagle). All parts are portrayed by adult actors. Landmark's production may also include up to four additional ensemble members: Frieda, Peppermint Patty, Shermy and Franklin (the first African-American character in the Peanuts comic strip).
Musical numbers include "My Blanket and Me," "The Kite," "The Baseball Game," "Little Known Facts," "Suppertime," and "Happiness." Added in the 1999 revival are Sally's song "My New Philosophy" and Schroeder's song "Beethoven Day".

Weeknight rehearsals are scheduled for up to four hours but we will almost always run no more than three hours. COMPENSATION AND CONTRACTUAL INFORMATION
All actors will be required to sign the standard Landmark Musical Theatre Volunteer's Agreement (for rehearsals) and the standard Landmark Musical Theatre Performer's Agreement (for performances), which includes performance expectations, rules of conduct and compensation.
Landmark expects actors to work as volunteers during rehearsal. There is no compensation offered for rehearsals. Starting with the first (or only) preview performance for a public audience, all actors are compensated based on San Francisco's minimum wage ($16.32/hour). Taxes are withheld and paid to the appropriate taxing agencies as required by law. Checks or direct deposits are made every two weeks in accordance with Landmark's standard pay periods.
Landmark also offers a bonus compensation plan based on a pool that is established once a break-even revenue point is reached. For YOU'RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN, that point is estimated to be approximately $40,000.00. Twenty percent (20%) of all revenue in excess of the break-even point is put into a bonus pool and divided between the actors in the cast on a pro rata basis. The exact break-even revenue point and division of the bonus pool (if any) will be specified in your Performer's Agreement.
There are no Actors' Equity contracts available for this production. Landmark is a signatory to Actors' Equity and is not permitted to knowingly offer work to any AEA member unless it is under an Actors' Equity contract.
VOLUNTARY DONATION OF COMPENSATION
We understand that every actor's financial situation is different. California AB/5 requires that when people work as employees (as our actors do during performances), we must pay at least minimum wage and cover all federal and state taxing requirements as well as such required benefits as Workers' Compensation and State Unemployment Insurance (health benefits are NOT a required benefit in California for non-profit companies under 50 employees).
The result of AB/5 has been to require that we reduce the size of our casts. With a 99-seat theater, even if we come close to selling out our shows, we can barely break even for all of our expenses including payroll for a show with 8-10 cast members and a band of 4-5 people. You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown only has 6 designated roles in the show plus a band size of 3-4 people. So this is one of the shows we can do relatively easily (as far as finances go).
We would like to increase the cast size with 1-4 ensemble members to give more talented actors an opportunity to perform on our stage, but the payroll costs for the performances puts that idea out of reach UNLESS some of our performers are willing to either work totally as a volunteer for performances (which is permitted by AB/5) or to donate a portion of their net compensation back to the company after it is received. As Landmark Musical Theatre is a 501(c)(3) non-profit tax-exempt company, such donations are tax-deductible and provide an offset against the money you would be earning during performances.
As noted above, everyone's financial situation is different and we would never expect people who are trying to make a living (however meager) by their theatrical endeavors. In fact, we honor you by making sure that we pay everyone who works for us. On the other hand, if you have a regular day job and work in theater for the fun and enjoyment of it, and do not need the compensation that we offer (which is still relatively small) offering to work as a volunteer or offering to donate some or all of your compensation back to the company can permit us to increase our cast sizes and offer more people roles in our shows.
The number of people who can afford to do this at some level will significantly effect how many people we can add to the ensemble. It is possible we will not be able to add any, but we hope that isn't the case. Your answer to the question about volunteering or donating back any of your compensation will be held in strictest confidence, AND IT WILL NOT IN ANY WAY EFFECT OUR DECISION ON WHETHER TO OFFER YOU A ROLE, WHETHER FEATURED OR ENSEMBLE. Those decisions will be made based on talent only. The only purpose for the question is for us to determine what the "cutoff line" will be for adding additional ensemble members (if any - it is possible we will not be able to add anyone).
Do keep in mind though, that if you pledge to donate back some of your compensation (in which case we must pay you in full as an employee at minimum wage and trust that you will complete the donation at the end of the show), we will be trusting you to make good on that pledge as it will be instrumental to our decision to increase the number of casting opportunities for this show.
