Winner of the Tony and the Drama Desk Awards for Best Book, THE 25th ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE has charmed audiences across the country with its effortless wit and humor. Featuring a fast-paced, wildly funny and touching story by Rachel Sheinkin and a truly fresh and vibrant score by William Finn (composer of FALSETTOS), this bee is one unforgettable experience. An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents (all portrayed by adult actors) vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life-unaffirming “ding” of the bell that signals a spelling mistake.

Six spellers enter... one speller leaves victorious! The losers get a hug and a juice box.

And YOU may be called upon to spell a word – so be prepared!

IMPORTANT NOTICES
COVID-19 HEALTH ADVISORY
Landmark Musical Theatre and the Children's Creativity Theater, as required by the County of San Francisco and the State of California, have imposed special rules for attendance at The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee performances which include: proof of completed vaccination (or a negative Covid-19 test taken within 72 hours), temperature checks, and mandatory use of masks indoors except when eating, drinking or performing on stage. We are also requiring all audience members to complete a short questionnaire as to recent health status and contact with potential virus carriers, and contact information in case contact tracing is required. We will also provide hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes for use by audience members during performances and intermission. If you would like to read our entire protocol, please CLICK HERE.

RECOMMENDED AGE ADVISORY
Children 13 and under will not be admitted without their parent
or legal guardian present throughout the entire performance.

Regular performances of this production would be rated at least PG-13 (and possibly R) by an agency such as the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), for the use of strong adult language and for the inclusion of some mature sexual references. We recommend our regular performances for children over the age of 13. If you do not feel it is appropriate to bring your younger children to a regular performance, the matinees on Oct. 23, 24, 30 and 31 are modified to remove most of the adult language and sexual references, making those performances more suitable for children ages 8-13.

Please consider bringing your younger children to one of those modified performances.
